Saudi-America also failed… but this proxy of UAE defeated Houthi, big counterattack in Middle East
UAE Proxy Militia Yemen: In the fight in the Middle East, the Houthi group, which big military power countries like Saudi Arabia, America and Israel have not been able to weaken for years, has been dealt a severe blow by a small but strategically strong militia group of Yemen – the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The counterattack took place in Hadramaut, Yemen’s most important and oil-rich region, which has long held strategic importance for the Houthis and other regional powers.
claim support
According to a report, STC is one of the most active proxy organizations with influence in the UAE. It has been claimed to have support from the UAE at both political and military levels, however, Abu Dhabi never officially confirms or denies this.
Who is STC and why is its influence increasing?
STC was established in 2017 and is headquartered in Aden. The head of the organization, Aidras al-Zobaidi, is considered to be in favor of freeing South Yemen from Houthi control and establishing a separate nation. At present, most parts of Yemen are under the influence of Houthi rebels, in such a situation the emergence of STC can prove to be a step to change the political scenario of Yemen.
Yemen is located along the Red Sea, a major route for global oil trade. 12% of the world’s oil passes through this route. This is why the economic security of Saudi, Israel and Gulf countries is deeply linked to this region.
STC’s aggressive strategy in Hadhramaut
STC fighters have pushed back Houthi rebels from several places in Hadhramaut province in eastern Yemen with the help of modern weapons, drones and strategic cooperation. Due to the presence of huge oil reserves in this area, its geo-political value increases even more.
The Houthi rebels have long been considered Iran-backed, while the STC, on the other hand, is seen as a UAE-backed proxy. Many reports claim that the UAE is adopting a similar strategy in Yemen as it did in Sudan with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) where it gets gold trade in return. In Yemen this trade is visible in the form of oil.

What can this struggle change?
The rise of the STC and the Houthis’ retreat from eastern Yemen could have a major impact on the balance of power in the Middle East. Efforts to control the Red Sea trade route will now intensify. If the STC stabilizes its hold, the situation could further strengthen the formation of two parallel power centers in Yemen. This changing equation of Yemen will affect not only local politics but also global energy security and stability of the Middle East.
