PM Modi’s surprise welcome for Putin, Kremlin said – ‘Completely unexpected!’

The Kremlin on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to personally welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin at New Delhi’s Palam Airport as special and unexpected. The Russian side said that the Indian side had not informed them about this in advance, due to which this moment became even more meaningful.

PM Modi warmly welcomed PM Modi

The Russian press note said that welcoming Putin on the stairs of the plane was a warm and informal but effective gesture from Prime Minister Modi. Putin reached India on Thursday evening, where his visit is scheduled for about 27 hours. This visit is taking place at a time when tensions in international geopolitics are increasing, but relations between India and Russia remain strong.

On his return to India after a gap of four years, Prime Minister Modi himself welcomed Putin at the airport. Interestingly, after the SCO meeting in Tianjin three months ago, both the leaders were seen traveling in the same car. This time too they left the airport together.

hosting a private dinner

This evening, Prime Minister Modi is organizing a private dinner in Putin’s honor. This dinner is being considered an opportunity for informal talks between the two leaders, which will prepare the basis for the 23rd India-Russia summit to be held on Friday. This is being seen as a retribution for the hospitality received during Modi’s visit to Moscow in July last year.

Many important issues are expected to be discussed during the summit. Further strengthening defense cooperation, finding ways to protect bilateral trade from global pressures and exploring possible cooperation in small modular nuclear reactors are considered to be the main agenda. Western countries are also keeping an eye on this meeting, because this talk is taking place in the background of the recent cooling in India-US relations.

During Putin’s visit, many agreements related to trade, technology and defense between the two countries can be finalized. Experts believe that this visit will give a new direction to the long-term strategic relations between India and Russia and will bring the two countries closer to each other in the changing global scenario.
