Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Only one-third of India’s population has health insurance. Health insurance is very important today, as a sudden illness can weaken families financially. People have to sell their houses, land and even jewelery to pay for expensive hospital treatment. Keeping this in mind, the Central Govt Ayushman Bharat Scheme started The benefits of this scheme are available in both government and private hospitals, so patients don’t have to look out of pocket for quality care. More than 29,000 hospitals across the country are affiliated to this scheme.

Currently, Ayushman Bharat Yojana is the largest government health program in the world, providing health insurance up to 5 lakhs. According to the information received, approximately 347 million cards have been issued in the country. A total of 91.9 million people have received treatment under this scheme till March 2025.

You can avail this scheme and also get Ayushman Card. This government scheme is run under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Its objective is to provide financial security to poor and vulnerable families against expensive medical treatment. The scheme was launched in 2018 and is proving to be a life-saving shield for lakhs of people across the country. Under this scheme, each eligible family gets a cashless health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh per year, which covers major surgeries, complex treatments, critical illness, hospitalization and post-operative care.

The scheme is integrated through a digital platform. Ayushman Card, e-KYC, hospital verification and dashboard monitoring have all brought transparency and speed to the process. Documents required to apply for Ayushman Card include your Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Income Proof and Labor Registration Certificate (BOWC). With these documents you can apply for your Ayushman Bharat card.

Online Process for Ayushman Card

  • Visit the Ayushman Bharat Beneficiary Portal. (beneficiary.nha.gov.in)
  • Or open PM-JAY main site/app.
  • Select ‘Am I Eligible’/Beneficiary option.
  • Enter your mobile number and verify the OTP.
  • Select your state and district.
  • Check your eligibility for the card from your Aadhaar number.

Then, select and search the appropriate options of Aadhar or Ration Card (RC)/PM/CM Letter/RSBY URN/Mobile Number. The system will display matches against the SECC-2011 database. Then select Family List and Members. Your family members will appear on the screen. Select the member for whom you want to create a card and select the ‘Click here to register’ or eKYC option. You can download or get digital/PVC cards. Go to the nearest common service center or paneled hospital and the Arogya CSC operator will assist you there.
