PM Shahbaz gave green signal… Asim Munir got the most powerful military post, stir in Pakistan

CDF Appointment Pakistan: A major decision changing the military structure in Pakistan was taken on Thursday (December 4) when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir to the new post of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF).

Along with this, his continuity in the post of Army Chief was also confirmed. After this appointment, Asim Munir has now become the first Defense Force Chief of the country, who will be at the helm of command of all three armies.

President approved the proposal

According to the statement of Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif had sent this proposal to President Asif Ali Zardari, which was also approved by the President on Thursday. As soon as the approval was received, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces (CDF).

According to the new arrangement, Asim Munir will hold the responsibilities of both the posts of Army Chief and CDF simultaneously for the next five years. This would make him more influential at the highest level in the military structure, as the position of CDF provides extensive authority and control over strategic and tactical matters.

Clash between politics and army

This decision has come when there has been continuous turmoil between Pakistan’s politics and army for the last few years. For a long time this question was being raised as to when Munir would be given the post of CDF. Recently, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had indicated that the process has started, and now it has been officially approved.

The way for a new post was created by amending the Constitution.

The Shehbaz Sharif government had recently created the post of CDF through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. In this amendment, it was clarified that the Chief of Defense Forces will command the three services as well as the National Strategic Command. This move is being considered a historic change in the military structure of Pakistan, as now there exists a unified top military post above the Chief of Army Staff.

Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar Siddu also extended

Along with Army Chief Asim Munir, the tenure of Pakistan Air Force Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Siddu has also been given an extension of two years. This extension will be effective after the completion of his current tenure in March 2026. Both these appointments are being seen as a matter of military stability and strategic continuity in Pakistan.
