Root, who is counted among England’s most successful batsmen across all formats, was in search of a Test century in Australia for a long time. After waiting for 159 matches, Root finally achieved this big milestone. This historic century came in the 291st innings of his career.
This is his fifth Test century in the Ashes, four of which came in England. His previous best score in Australia was 89 runs, which he made in Brisbane in 2021.
40th Test century of Root’s career
With this century, Root has become the fourth batsman in the world to complete 40 Test centuries. Only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45) and Ricky Ponting (41) are ahead of him. He also has 66 half-centuries in his name in Test cricket. The only other player from England to score 30 or more centuries is Alastair Cook (33).
