Pastor and his wife arrested for converting Hindus by paying money
A new case of forced conversion has come to light in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday (December 2), police registered a case against a priest and his wife for luring Hindus with money to convert to Christianity. After the allegations were confirmed, the husband was arrested, while the wife is absconding. The accused couple have been identified as Pastor Ramu Prajapati and his wife Rinki.
According to the complaint, the couple had been organizing meetings under the name Healing and Deliverance Seva in Babahanoli Mohalla (Ward 16), Robertsganj police station area for several months. At these meetings, people were allegedly being induced to convert to Christianity through healings, performing miracles, and religious literature.
BJP Yuva Morcha District Minister Shivam Singh Rajput complained to the police that local people had informed him about attempts to convert by luring them with money. On reaching the spot, he found another meeting going on in the presence of about a dozen people.
On receiving information about the incident, members of Bajrang Dal and BJP Yuva Morcha reached the spot and protested. After this the police team reached the village and took all the people present to the police station for questioning.
Police have recovered a mobile phone, tablet, Bible, cross and other religious material from the spot, which were being used in alleged conversion activities. Circle Officer City Randhir Mishra conducted an investigation on the complaint, in which the allegations were found to be true. After this, a case was registered against Pastor Ramu Prajapati and he was arrested, while the search for his wife Rinki is going on.
Shivam Singh Rajput told that when an attempt was made to stop them, the accused couple reacted angrily and tried to put pressure on the women by pushing them forward.
There is a tense atmosphere in the area after the incident and the police is investigating the matter further. Officials say that converting someone through religious inducements is clearly against the law and strict action will be taken in this matter. The matter has once again become a matter of debate and concern regarding the alleged illegal conversion taking place in the state.
