America considers India as AI partner amid China challenge!

India’s role came to the fore this week when US lawmakers and experts warned that there is a fast race going on in the world regarding AI. China is rapidly adopting AI in its military and industries, while the US and its partner countries are tightening controls on advanced chip technology to maintain their lead.

At a US Senate meeting on Tuesday (December 2), experts said the coming year will demand deeper coordination among democracies like India to set the world’s AI rules, secure chip supply chains and curb China’s growing influence.

This meeting was called by the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, Pacific and International Cyber Security Policy to assess what impact China’s AI boom will have on the world. India quickly emerged in the conversation as an important country that can play a big role in the future AI framework.

Tarun Chhabra, former White House national security official and now associated with Anthropic, said that close coordination with democratic countries like India will be very important to build a reliable AI infrastructure. He told that soon a big AI conference is going to be held in India, which will be a good opportunity to create such a framework. This conference is proposed in February 2026.

Chhabra said that leadership in AI will deeply impact the economy and security of any country in the years to come. He described the coming two-three years as very decisive. He said controls should be tightened to prevent Chinese state companies from taking American hardware.

At the same time, Senators Pete Ricketts and Chris Coons described this AI race as the ‘Sputnik competition’ of the Cold War era. Ricketts said that this time the competition is with China and there are bigger things at stake. He said AI will transform both civilian life and the military, and China wants to capture the next technological revolution by combining civil and military AI.

Coons said leadership by the United States and its allies in AI is critical to ensuring its adoption around the world depends on “our chips, our cloud infrastructure, and our models.” He said that China is investing huge amounts of money on AI research and its use and aims to become the world’s AI superpower by 2030.

Experts warned that China’s military is rapidly integrating AI into every level of its army. AEI’s Chris Miller said that Russia and Ukraine are also using AI to filter intelligence and this technology will become an important part of defense planning in the future.

Many new possibilities have also emerged for India in this discussion. Cooperation on emerging technologies is increasing between India and America. The AI conference to be held in India in February 2026 is an indication that India’s role in building the world’s AI rules, security standards and supply chain related framework is becoming more important.
