Maharashtra Schools Closed Today: Why did the teachers have to come on the streets? Know what is the rule of ‘TET’ which created an uproar
News India Live, Digital Desk: If you live in Maharashtra and were preparing to send your child to school early this morning, or have already sent it, then you may have had to come back from the gate. Yes, today i.e. on 5th December, schools are shuttered in many areas of the state. Often schools are closed due to rain or festivals, but the reason for today’s holiday is a bit serious. Today thousands of teachers across the state are leaving their classrooms and protesting. Now you must be thinking, brother, what is the matter? Why is our ‘Guruji’ angry? Root of controversy: ‘TET’ i.e. Teacher Eligibility Test, the whole matter is stuck due to a government rule. If you understand in simple language, the government has put a condition that if schools (especially aided or subsidized schools) want government grant, then it is mandatory for the teachers teaching there to pass TET (Teacher Eligibility Test). Teachers say, “We have been teaching for years, now suddenly you are saying that only if you pass the test, you will get the grant, this is unfair!” Their argument is that the teachers who were appointed before 2013 or who have years of experience. Why is this new rule being imposed on them now? What are the teachers demanding? Maharashtra State Primary Teachers Committee and other organizations have launched this movement together. Their clear demand is: Remove the condition of TET: The requirement of passing TET for grant should be abolished. Old pension: The demand for implementing the old pension scheme is already going on. Teachers say that until the government does not withdraw this ‘Tughlaqi decree’, they are not going to back down. Due to this, demonstrations are taking place at many places today and work in schools is at a standstill. What is the condition of parents and children? Obviously, when elephants fight, only the grass gets crushed. This strike is having a direct impact on the education of children. Many parents remained confused in the morning whether the school was open or closed. The children who reached school had to come back. At present, the tussle continues between the government and the teachers union. We can only hope that some middle way is found soon so that children do not suffer any harm. If you have not received any official message from the school, then definitely call the school administration once and confirm.
