President Putin raised questions on America’s ‘dual policy’, praised PM Modi and said – India is lucky

New Delhi, 5 December. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview given to an Indian channel before his visit to India, has raised questions on the ‘dual policy’ adopted by America towards Russia. He said that America itself buys uranium from Russia, while putting pressure on India to reduce oil imports from Russia. Putin clearly said that if America has the right to buy fuel from Russia, then India should also get the same rights.

Putin reached New Delhi on Thursday evening, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him at the airport. This is his first visit to India in four years. Meanwhile, America has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, making it more difficult for India to buy oil from Russia. According to the latest data, India’s oil imports from Russia have decreased by 30 percent in October 2025. In the interview, Putin also openly praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He described Modi as a “very trustworthy and intelligent leader” and said that “India is lucky to have a leader like Modi, who lives and breathes for the country.” Putin also said that Russia is committed to further strengthening partnership with India in the energy, defence, economic and high-tech sectors.

On the other hand, the Trump administration has been continuously alleging that India is helping Putin in the Ukraine war by buying oil from Russia. Recently Donald Trump had claimed that Narendra Modi had assured him to stop buying oil from Russia, although India had countered this claim by saying that it gives priority to the interests of Indian consumers.

Meanwhile, due to increasing strictness on Russian companies trapped in US sanctions, India has reduced purchases from them and now imports are coming only from those companies which are not included in the sanctions list. According to experts, this step of India is considered to be in line with the expectations of America.
