Humayun Kabir TMC Resignation Mamata 2026

MLA Humayun Kabir, who had announced to build Babri Masjid in West Bengal, has been expelled from Trinamool Congress Party. After the party’s action, Kabir has started targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He has claimed that Mamata Banerjee will not be able to become the Chief Minister after the next assembly elections. After announcing the foundation stone of the mosque, the ruling Trinamool Congress had suspended him. Now Kabir has hinted at forming his own party.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday (December 4), Kabir said, “The Chief Minister will have to be a former Chief Minister. In 2026, the current Chief Minister will no longer be ‘Chief Minister’. He will not take oath and will be called a former Chief Minister.” Kabir announced his resignation from TMC on Friday (6 December). Kabir had claimed that he would lay the foundation stone of a mosque like Babri Masjid on 6 December. Assembly elections are to be held in Bengal in 2026.

On Thursday, Kabir had said, “I will resign from TMC tomorrow. If necessary, I will announce a new party on December 22.” Regarding his meeting with the party’s district president, he said, “I have come to meet the district president and will comment later. But I have been suspended from the party, not from my MLA post. Let the meeting happen first.”

MLA Kabir had earlier announced, “We will lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid at Beldanga in Murshidabad district on December 6.” He had said that it would take three years to complete. Many Muslim leaders will participate in this event.

When news of the suspension broke, Kabir was sitting at the venue of the Chief Minister’s anti-SIR rally in Baharampur, where Trinamool had earlier called him. Kabir described it as “intentional insult”. He said, “I have not received any letter. But I will resign from the membership of the Assembly on Friday or Monday.”
