Indigo Crisis: DGCA’s U-turn, accepted all the demands of Indigo to overcome the crisis, instructions related to ‘weekly rest’ of crew withdrawn

New Delhi. In a major step in the aviation sector, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has withdrawn its recent strict instructions regarding weekly rest for crew members with immediate effect. This decision of the regulatory body has come as a big relief for various airlines of the country, which were continuously citing practical difficulties in operating due to these rules. DGCA has clarified that this step has been taken in view of the demand of airlines to ensure operational stability.

Actually, DGCA had earlier issued instructions that no leave will be given to the crew members in lieu of weekly rest. The rule was aimed at reducing fatigue among pilots and cabin crew, but airlines said it was severely impacting roster management and hampering flight operations. The airlines’ body, in its representation to the DGCA, had said that there is a need for flexibility in the rules to deal with the ongoing ‘operational disruptions’ and maintain the continuity of flights.
