Have you conducted voting at two places? Now fine will be imposed and there may be jail, know the complete law!

[मतदाता सूची में दो जगह नाम होने] or from two different constituencies [एसआईआर संबंधी फॉर्म] Many people consider filling as a common mistake, but the law considers it a serious crime.

[लोक प्रतिनिधित्व अधिनियम 1950] Under this Act, registering a person’s name in the voter list of more than one place or knowingly giving wrong information is punishable. The Election Commission is now monitoring such cases more strictly than before through digital data matching.

This problem is common in Uttarakhand

In states like Uttarakhand, a large number of people keep moving from village to city for employment, study or business.

The names of many voters are still registered in the voter list of their village, even though they have got a new voter card made in the city. The result is that their name remains active in the voter list at two places – once in the village and second in the city.

According to experts, the problem of duplicate voter entries increases due to migration from hilly areas to plain cities, because people change their addresses but do not pay attention to getting the old voter entries removed.
