Riyan Parag to captain Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026? Assam cricketer breaks silence

New Delhi: With Sanju Samson traded to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Rajasthan Royals (RR) are looking for a new captain ahead of the IPL 2026. That’s it Parag’s name is at the top of the list, after the batter had led the side in eight matches last season, when Samson was injured.

Parag has been leading Assam in domestic cricket, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and said that he captained in seven to eight matches in the IPL last season. He further added that when they would analyse decisions in the dressing room, he had done things right 80 to 85 per cent.

He also said that team owner Manoj They created told him that the decision on captaincy will be taken after the IPL mini-auction, which is scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi.

“If the team management feels I am the right fit for captaincy, I am ready to put my hand up. If they feel that, as a player, I can contribute more, I am ready for that also,” Parag told Sports stars.

Parag further added that everyone thinks that captaincy is easy, and yes, there is an element of fame in it, but it reduces the element of cricket to 20 per cent.

“You have to attend all the meetings, attend sponsor shoots, and answer the media. I need to develop these things as a person,” Parag added.

Will Ravindra Jadeja captain Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026?

With Sanju Samson’s trade, the Rajasthan Royals are looking for a new leader. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is one option, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel are also in the fray.

Meanwhile, Samson will not lead CSK in the upcoming IPL season as the five-time champions have confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will return as captain after missing most of last season due to an injury.
