Delhi: The IPL mini-auction is on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. Be it IPL’s mini auction or mega auction, there is no dearth of discussion about it. 10 special things related to the first list of players made for auction:

*A total of 1355 players in the first list, out of which 1062 are Indian and 293 are foreign players (from a total of 14 countries). Of the Indian players, 928 are uncapped and 118 of them are those who have been a part of IPL. 22 players from associates are also in the list. Overall there are 212 capped, 1121 uncapped and 22 associate players in the list. There are 77 slots to be filled, of which 31 can be foreigners. A total of 173 players were retained or picked up before the auction. This list is not final for the auction. The franchise was given time till 3rd December to come up with the name and the final name by 5th December. After that the final list will be released.

*There is also an entry from Malaysia. India-born right-handed all-rounder Virandeep Singh has made his entry with a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

*One special name which is not in the list this time is that of Australia’s Glenn Maxwell. Andre Russell, Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis are also not in the list.

*The player whose name was most surprised to see in the list is Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis. His previous team Punjab Kings wanted to retain him (after seeing his excellent performance in the 2025 season) but Josh told them that he was getting married during the IPL days, so they would not guarantee him playing the entire season. So the team released him but later he registered for IPL. BCCI later clarified that he would be available for 4 matches only. Even then Josh kept his base price at the maximum of Rs 2 crore.

*There are only 16 capped Indian entries in the list but only two of them, Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer, have placed their names in the group with the highest base price of Rs 2 crore. Ravi is a spinner and was retained by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 11 crore last season. Due to a bad season, he was released before the auction. Venkatesh’s price was more than Rs 23 crore. They could not recover their price and hence were released.

*Among the overseas players, there are 43 players in the Rs 2 crore bracket, including Green, Smith (Steve and Jamie), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Jake Fridge-McGurk, Josh Inglis, Mustafizur Rahman, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, The names of Devon Conway, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Pathirana, Mahesh Thiksana and Hasaranga are the most special.

*Shakib Al Hasan, who has played 71 matches in 9 IPL seasons, is among the most experienced and in the Rs 1 crore base price bracket.

*The franchise has a total of Rs 237.55 crore to buy players in the auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (Rs 64.30 crore) have the highest amount and Chennai Super Kings (Rs 43.40 crore) are at the second position.

*For which player the franchise will spend the highest price in the auction, it will be decided in the auction itself, but for now the name of Cameron Green is being kept at the top for this. Australian all-rounder Green is in the elite group of 45 players whose base price is the highest at Rs 2 crore. Green was not in the IPL 2025 mega auction due to a back injury. The names of Liam Livingstone and David Miller are also among the favourites.

*Who will be the dark horse of this auction in the eyes of experts? For this, Jamie Smith’s name is on top because KKR needs a wicketkeeper, Chennai needs a backup overseas opener, Delhi Capitals needs an overseas opener and Punjab Kings need a player to replace Inglis. All these needs can be fulfilled by Jamie Smith.
