Putin Welcome India Russia Summit 23rd

Russian President Vladimir Putin was honored with a formal reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday (December 5). Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present on this occasion. The ceremony, organized in honor of Putin, who is on a two-day visit to India, will be followed by high-level diplomatic activities between the two countries throughout the day.

Today is the 23rd India-Russia annual summit between Putin and Modi, which will be held at Hyderabad House. The two leaders will have detailed discussions on economic cooperation, energy partnership and deepening ties especially in the defense sector. There will be a joint press conference after the summit, in which details of the agreements reached during the visit will be shared. According to the report, 10 inter-governmental agreements and more than 15 commercial MoUs are expected to be signed between the two countries.

Bilateral defense cooperation is the main focus of this summit. Several major deals are likely to be discussed between India and Russia, including the fifth generation fighter aircraft Su-57, acceleration of the supply of the existing S-400 air defense system and possible cooperation on the advanced S-500 air defense system. Besides, the next version of Bramhos, Bramhos Next Generation, will also be discussed.

Russia remains India’s largest defense supplier, while India seeks to strengthen its options for long-range air defense technology and heavy fighter jet cooperation with Russia. The Indian side will also raise the demand for expediting the supply of the remaining two S-400 units.

Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed Putin at Palam Airport on Thursday evening. Amid traditional dance performances, Modi welcomed Putin with a hug and the two leaders reached the Prime Minister’s residence in the same vehicle, where they had a private dinner.

Modi wrote in his X post, “Happy to welcome my friend President Putin to India. India-Russia friendship has stood the test of time and has been extremely beneficial for the people of both the countries.”

The Prime Minister also presented a copy of the Bhagavad Gita in Russian language to Putin.

After the summit meeting and joint press conference, a state banquet will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After this the Russian President will leave for Moscow on Friday evening.
