Alex Carey took an amazing catch, collided with Marnus Labuschagne but still did not drop the ball; watch video

On the first day of the Ashes Test being played in Brisbane, a moment was seen on the field which stunned the fans. Alex Carey took a brilliant catch by diving in the air, but at the same time, Marnus Labuschagne was also running towards the same ball to catch it and both of them collided with each other. Despite the collision, Carey did not give up his grip on the ball and this catch instantly went viral on social media.

The first day of the second Test of the Ashes Series 2025-26 being played at Gabba ended in a very dramatic manner. On Thursday (December 4), in the last over of the third session of the day, Alex Carey took that catch, seeing which the fans could not stop themselves from standing and clapping.

Actually, Mitchell Starc was bowling the 67th over and England all-rounder Gus Atkinson was in front. Starc’s hard length ball was top-edged by Atkinson’s bat and flew over the wicketkeeper and started towards the boundary. At the same time, without wasting a moment, Carey ran back and jumped in the air and caught it with both hands.

But this catch was not so simple. Catcher Marnus Labuschagne also tried to dive towards the same ball and collided with Carey. The collision was so strong that the fans thought that the ball might slip out of their hands, but Carey showed excellent control and held the ball tightly.

As soon as the catch was completed, Labuschagne hugged Carey while he was lying on the ground and noise echoed in the entire stadium. This wicket was also important because Atkinson had performed brilliantly with the bat in the previous Test. But this time he was out after scoring only 4 runs.

With this catch, Starc also completed his fifth wicket. Earlier, he had also sent Ben Duckett (0), Ollie Pope (0), Harry Brook (31) and Will Jacques (19) to the pavilion. After a few balls, he also dismissed Brayden Carse (0) and took six wickets in the innings.

Talking about the status of the match, by the end of the first day, England had scored 325/9 runs in 74 overs. Joe Root remained at the crease after scoring 135* runs in 202 balls, while Joffra Archer (32* runs) will continue to bat with him on the second day.
