‘Pro-Naxal’ protest: Naxal related videos and links found from accused Akshay ER’s phone
The issue of indications of pro-Naxal activities in the controversial demonstration held in the name of protest against air pollution in Delhi was gaining prominence. In its detailed report filed in Patiala House Court, Delhi Police said that during the investigation of the mobile phone of accused Akshay ER, video material, links and messages related to Naxalites have been found. According to the police, Akshay ER is an active member of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (bsCEM), the main group involved in the protest, and has been described as the “key conspirator” of the incident.
Police told the court that during the protest, Akshay ER had raised slogans in support of Madvi Hidma, “Hidma amar rahe, kitne Hidma maroge, har ghar se Hidma nikalega, Hidma ji ko lal salaam” and he was also holding posters of Hidma. In the video footage, he is also seen spraying chilli spray in the eyes of constable Ishant.
According to the mobile data found in the investigation, material related to Naxalism was found in the search history of Akshay ER’s phone. Police said that messages sent by a person named Gurkeerat were found in the phone, in which Madvi Hidma was mentioned as a hero. According to the police, this digital material reflects the organized ideology-based objectives behind the demonstration.
The incident took place on November 23, when a large number of protesters had gathered near India Gate in the name of protest against pollution. During the protests, incidents of use of chili spray on police and controversial sloganeering were reported. Subsequently, two FIRs were registered against 22 protesters, of whom 16 were arrested, and 15 accused were remanded to judicial custody by the court. One of the accused claimed to be a minor and requested to be sent to a juvenile home. The FIR also later added Section 197 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), which deals with acts or communications threatening the sovereignty, unity, integrity or security of India.
The police report noted that the demonstration was organized by activists of two organisations, Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (bsCEM) and The Himkhand. Police said that these groups, under the guise of protesting against pollution, were raising slogans in support of Naxalite commander Madvi Hidma, which raises serious questions on the intention of the protest. Investigative agencies are now delving deeper into the digital content, role of organizations and interactions of individuals involved in the protest. In the next phase, the police is preparing to file a detailed charge sheet in the court.
