Jharkhand government’s ‘Birsa Green Village Scheme’ to benefit from barren land also

Birsa Harit Gram Yojana: To promote forests in the state and to provide employment to the rural people, Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand is running a special scheme named ‘BHGY – Birsa Harit Gram Yojana’. The objective of this scheme is to increase the forest area. Along with this, creating such employment opportunities for the development of villagers which can continue continuously.

For whom is this scheme?

Under this scheme, tree plantation activities are conducted on public and private lands. SC, ST, landless families and other economically weaker sections get benefits in this scheme. The scheme provides a source of income to landless families through plantation of fruit trees on non-cultivated land. Non-cultivated land is land that is mostly barren.

How does the plan work?

BHGY is implemented under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). The beneficiaries of the scheme are selected through Gram Sabha and they get increased natural resources and better employment.

Which people get the benefit of this scheme?

-Applicant should belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Primitive Tribe or Below Poverty Line family
-Applicant should be a female headed family, a disabled person or a beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
-Applicant must have MNREGA job card
-The livelihood of the applicant should be mainly dependent on agriculture.
-Applicant must be a small or marginal farmer

How to apply

To avail the benefits of the offline scheme, you can contact your Panchayat head/village head or Sakhi Mandal. If you want to take advantage of the online scheme, then you can download the ‘BHGY – Birsa Harit Gram Yojana’ application from Play Store and apply through it.
