India-Russia friendship is like the pole star, says PM Narendra Modi after bilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin

New Delhi. Addressing a joint press conference after the bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today, I am very happy to welcome President Putin to the 23rd summit of India and Russia. In the last eight decades, there were many ups and downs in the world, humanity had to go through many challenges and even amidst all this, India-Russia friendship stood like the pole star. These relationships, based on mutual respect and deep trust, have always stood the test of time. Today we discussed all aspects of cooperation to further strengthen this foundation.

Modi said, this visit of Putin is taking place at a time when our bilateral relations are passing through many historical milestones. Exactly 25 years ago, President Putin laid the foundation of our strategic partnership. For the last two and a half decades, Putin has continuously nurtured these relations under his leadership. His leadership in every situation took mutual relations to new heights. I express my gratitude to my friend and President Putin for this deep friendship and unwavering commitment towards India. Taking economic cooperation to new heights is our common priority. To make this a reality, today we have agreed on an economy cooperation program till 2030.

The Prime Minister said, I am confident that this platform will give new strength to our trade relations. It will also open new doors for exports, co-production and co-innovation. Recently two new Indian Consulates have been opened in Russia. This will improve contacts between the citizens of both the countries and further strengthen our mutual closeness. India will soon issue 30-day free e-tourist visa and 30-day group tourist visa for Russian citizens, Modi announced.

Narendra Modi said, today we also discussed regional and global issues. With regard to Ukraine, India has favored peace from the beginning. We welcome all efforts for a peaceful and permanent solution to this issue. India has always been ready to contribute and will continue to do so. India and Russia have long cooperated shoulder to shoulder in the fight against terrorism. Be it the terrorist attack in Pahalgam or the cowardly attack on the Crocus City Hall, the root of all these incidents is the same. India firmly believes that terrorism is a direct attack on the values of humanity and global unity is our greatest strength against it.
