Virat Kohli is in great form at the moment and is scoring a lot of runs with his bat in the ODI series against South Africa. He has scored two centuries in two consecutive ODI matches and now he has a golden opportunity to score three consecutive centuries in the series.
Sports News: Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli is in great form at the moment and his bat is on fire in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. Kohli, who has scored two consecutive centuries in the first two matches of the current series, is now just one step away from scoring a hat-trick of centuries. If he also scores a century in the third and deciding ODI match to be played on 6 December, he will become the only Indian batsman to do so in the history of ODI cricket.
Kohli is also the highest run-scorer in the series at present and his performance has put Team India in a strong position in the series.
Virat’s stormy performance in the first two ODIs
Virat Kohli started this ODI series with a bang. In the first match, he played a brilliant inning of 135 runs, which included 11 fours and 7 sixes. On the basis of his aggressive and restrained innings, the Indian team won that match by 17 runs. Kohli was also chosen the best player of that match.
After this, Kohli’s bat did not remain silent in the second ODI match also. He played another excellent century and scored 102 runs. In this innings he hit 7 fours and 2 sixes. Along with him, Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored a century, due to which the Indian team, batting first, scored a huge score of 358 runs.
However, despite this, India had to face defeat in the second ODI. South African captain Aiden Markram played a strong inning of 110 runs and led his team to victory and leveled the series at 1-1.
Kohli very close to making a historical record
Now the third and decisive match of the series will be played on 6 December in Visakhapatnam. This match will not only decide the series but can also be historic for Virat Kohli. If Kohli scores a century in this match also, he will become the first Indian player to score centuries in three consecutive matches for the second time in ODI cricket. Earlier, he had achieved this feat against West Indies in the year 2018, when he had scored centuries in three consecutive ODI matches.
Now he has a golden opportunity to repeat the same history after seven years and make a new record. Many great batsmen of the world have scored three consecutive centuries in ODI cricket, but doing so twice by the same player is considered a very rare achievement. At present, the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa is tied at 1-1. Whichever team wins the third match will win the series. In such a situation, this match has become very important for both the teams.
