Trump should get Nobel! Former American official targeted Trump’s policies, said – brought India-Russia closer
New Delhi:An interesting comment has emerged in American politics on India-Russia relations. Former US Pentagon official Michael Rubin, taking a dig at his own country’s President Donald Trump, claimed that the real credit for the warmth and respect that President Vladimir Putin received in New Delhi does not go to Russia but to Trump’s policies.
According to Rubin, it was because of Trump that India and Russia came closer to each other. For this reason he sarcastically says that Trump should be given the Nobel Prize for this.
Putin got respect because of Trump
Rubin said that Putin’s visit to India was a major diplomatic success in the eyes of Moscow. He said that the way India welcomed Putin, he would hardly have received such respect in any other country. He said sarcastically that if India and Russia have come so close, the credit for it goes to Donald Trump, hence he deserves the Nobel Prize.
India’s displeasure with Trump’s policies?
Rubin raised the question of how many of the agreements signed during Putin’s visit will translate into real cooperation and how many are merely the result of India’s resentment that grew during Trump’s tenure. According to him, Trump’s behavior towards PM Modi was erratic and at times indifferent. Besides, America’s ignorance towards India’s broader interests also created distance in the relations between the two countries.
Two ideologies in America
Trump’s supporters consider it a ‘success’, opponents consider it a ‘diplomatic failure’. Rubin said that in America this entire incident is being viewed from two completely opposite perspectives. Trump supporters call this a success of his foreign policy and say, “See, we told you so!” At the same time, about 65% of Americans who do not support Trump consider it to be a result of his diplomatic incompetence.
Rubin accused Trump that his decisions pushed India-US relations back and many decisions appeared to be under the influence of countries like Pakistan, Turkey and Qatar.
loss of strategic relationships
According to Rubin, many Washington experts are surprised by how Trump has weakened the growing US-India strategic partnership. He says that Trump will never accept this and Putin will present India’s proximity as a proof of his foresight.
America should stop lecturing India
Commenting on Putin’s promise of cheap and stable energy supply to India, Rubin said that the US has never seriously understood India’s real energy needs. He said that India is the country with the largest population in the world and will soon become the third largest economy. Such a country needs energy. He will buy only what is in his interest. He clearly said that America should stop preaching on India.
If you can’t give an alternative then keep quiet
Showing a mirror to America, Rubin said that when American interests are at stake, America itself does not hesitate to buy energy from Russia. He asked, “If the US does not want India to buy Russian oil, is it providing cheaper alternatives to India in similar quantities?”
In the end he said in a sharp tone that if we do not have any solution, it is better that we remain silent. India will have to give priority to its security and needs.
