High Court took suo motu cognizance of the case of beating of JLKM leader Tarun Mahato, summoned Seraikela-Kharsawan SP
Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court has taken a strict stand, taking seriously the case of JLKM leader Tarun Mahato being seriously injured due to beating in Ichagarh. The division bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar took suo motu cognizance of the letter of the victim’s wife and converted it into a PIL. In the matter, the division bench issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP, SP and DSP Seraikela, which was accepted by advocate Piyush Chitresh on behalf of the state government. Taking a strict stance in the case, the Division Bench directed the Superintendent of Police of Seraikela-Kharsawan to be physically present along with the case records and DVR of the CCTV camera.

The division bench fixed December 8 for the next hearing of the case. It is noteworthy that Bhanumati Kumari, a resident of Adityapur area, had written a letter to the President and also sent a copy of it to the Chief Justice of the High Court. The High Court took that letter seriously and converted it into a PIL. It was alleged in the letter that Ichagarh police station picked up Tarun Kumar Mahato and beat him mercilessly. Tarun Kumar Mahato got seriously injured due to the beating. He is undergoing treatment in the hospital. Tarun Kumar Mahato is said to be the leader of JLKM.
