Effect of cold and drop in temperature in North India

Effect of cold increased in North India

Cold has made rapid progress in various areas of North India including Delhi NCR, Haryana and Punjab. Due to continuous decrease in night temperature, people are experiencing cold in the morning and evening. Meteorologists say that the effect of cold wave may increase further in the coming days, because the wind direction is becoming stable from the mountains towards the plains.

Fall in temperature in Haryana

There has been a sudden drop in temperature in Haryana. According to the latest data from the Met Office, the minimum temperature in Narnaul on Saturday was recorded at 3.8 degrees Celsius, which is about 4 degrees below normal. This is the lowest temperature of this season. Experts say that such a temperature drop in the second week of December is below average, increasing the possibility of dense fog.

Temperature of other cities

The minimum temperature was recorded at 4.7 degrees in Hisar, around 6 degrees in Bhiwani, 6.4 degrees in Sirsa, 7.5 degrees in Karnal and 9.8 degrees in Ambala. The local administration has advised citizens to take special precautions during morning and night hours. Health experts say that in such cold, the risk of infection and fever increases in the elderly, children and respiratory patients.

Effect of cold in Punjab

The effect of cold seems to be increasing in Punjab also. Ice-like frost is visible in the fields in the morning and people are looking for relief by lighting bonfires on the roadside. Faridkot was the coldest district on Saturday, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.5 degrees Celsius, which is about 4 degrees below the normal level.

Temperature of other major cities

The temperature was recorded at 5.6 degrees in Amritsar, 5 degrees in Gurdaspur, 7 degrees in Ludhiana, 5.2 degrees in Pathankot, 4.6 degrees in Bathinda and 9 degrees Celsius in Patiala. According to meteorologist Dr. SK Sharma, the western disturbance remained weak last week, due to which cold winds are entering the plains. There is a possibility of further drop in temperature in the next 4 to 6 days.

due to increasing cold

The Meteorological Department has given some reasons for increasing cold, such as continuous snowfall on the mountains, rapid drop in temperature at night due to clear sky, wind direction becoming stable in the north-west and reduction in humidity. The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to avoid morning irrigation and apply frost protection measures on crops.

weather ahead

Weather analysts believe that the fog may become dense by the weekend, which is likely to affect traffic. Alert can also be issued in some cities. Air quality in Delhi NCR remains poor, and the cool air traps pollution on the ground, requiring patients with respiratory problems to take extra vigilance.

Is it different from the common cold?

Compared to the last three years, this year the cold seems to be starting earlier. Climate analysts say the effects of El Nino are making the weather unstable, and further drops in temperatures are possible in the coming months.
