More than 2000 flights have been grounded in a day so far and there have been reports of fares increasing four times. The Civil Aviation Ministry has used its regulatory powers to ensure fair and reasonable fares on all affected routes.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Ministry has directed IndiGo to refund all pending refunds without delay by 8 pm on December 7 and no re-scheduling fee should be charged from passengers affected by canceled flights. The ministry has asked to create a special passenger support and refund cell, personally contact the affected passengers and continue the automatic refund system.

These changes were made due to operational problems, due to which hundreds of passengers had to face problems. Many passengers missed holidays, weddings, examinations and family emergencies. Protests also took place outside the Indigo counter at the airport. Passengers were not given any advance notice, and updates were not shown on the display boards. Prices of alternative tickets skyrocketed – like the Ranchi-Kolkata fare increased from the usual Rs 5,000 to Rs 55,117. 3 flights to Hyderabad were cancelled.
