USA and India will negotiate bilateral trade agreement from December 10, the first phase agreement will be signed in this calendar year.

New Delhi. Government sources said on Saturday that India and the United States will hold trade talks in New Delhi from December 10. The purpose of these discussions is to take forward negotiations on bilateral trade agreements between the two countries. On November 28, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, the chief negotiator of the deal from India, had said that India hopes to sign the first phase of the India-US bilateral trade agreement within the current calendar year. The Commerce Secretary said that we are very hopeful that we will find a solution within this calendar year. India and the US were initially aiming to complete the phase one India-US bilateral trade agreement by autumn 2025, but there were new developments in the US trade policy landscape, including tariffs. US President Donald Trump imposed 25 percent tariff on Indian goods from August 1 and increased it by another 25 percent a few days later, citing India’s continued purchases of Russian oil. The US has imposed retaliatory tariffs on many countries with which it faces trade deficit. Several rounds of negotiations have taken place to finalize the BTA with the United States. The BTA was formally proposed in February following instructions from the leadership of both the countries.
