Justin Greaves made a record by scoring the first double century, became the first cricketer to do so in 148 years of Test history.

Greaves has become the first cricketer in the 148-year history of Test cricket to score a double century in the fourth innings of a match while batting at No. 6 or lower. Earlier, Ben Stokes had played an inning of 155 runs against Australia at Lord’s.

Greaves has become the fourth West Indies cricketer and seventh cricketer in the world to score a double century in the fourth innings of a Test match. Before him, only George Hadley, Bill Edrich, Sunil Gavaskar, Gordon Greenidge, Nathan Astle and Kyle Mayers had achieved this feat.

First cricketer to do so

Greaves was out on 0 in the first innings of this match. He is the first player to score a double century in the fourth innings of a Test after being out for 0 in the previous innings. Earlier in 1976, Roy Fredericks had scored 138 runs against England.

On the basis of this excellent innings of Greaves, West Indies was successful in drawing this match. Chasing the impossible target of 531 runs, the West Indies team scored 457 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 163.3 overs in the second innings. This is the second highest score made by any team in the fourth innings in Test cricket history. This performance of West Indies came when the first 4 wickets had fallen at the score of only 72 runs.

Top scorer Justin Greaves made an unbeaten partnership of 196 runs in 382 balls with Shai Hope for the fifth wicket and 180 runs in 409 balls with Kemar Roach for the seventh wicket.

Greaves scored the first double century of his Test career, scoring unbeaten 202 runs in 388 balls, hitting 19 fours. Hope played an inning of 140 runs (15 fours and 2 sixes) in 234 balls, while Roach played an unbeaten inning of 58 runs in 233 balls.
