It’s that time of year when Google drops its annual “Year in Search 2025” report and guess what? it is already here offering a fascinating look at what Indians were searching for this year.

In this reportGoogle highlights the top trends, events, and cultural moments that captured the nation’s attention, be it be Dharmendra’s legacy to the Maha Kumbh festival.

Besides this, this report also talks about how artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally transformed search habits in India, leading to more complex and visual queries.

It appears that IPL 2025 was the most searched topic overall, followed closely by Google Gemini at the second spot, with AI-related topics dominating the list as highlighted in the report.

Similarly, the Trending AI searches were all about Nano Banana Pro (Google’s image model), which sparked viral trends like the “3D model trend” and “Gemini saree trend prompt.”

The other popular AI-related searches included DeepSeek, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Flow, and X’s Grok.

During this period, “We saw a vibrant mix of sports fervour, from the IPL to a breakout year for Women’s Cricket. We witnessed deep curiosity for the AI world; Google Gemini soared to become the #2 top trending searches, while people embraced Nano Banana trends. We celebrated national sensations, with Jemimah Rodrigues and Vaibhav Suryavanshi featuring as trending personalities,” noted in a Google blog.

Further adding, “We found time for joy, planning getaways to rising destinations like Phu Quoc, celebrating the Saiyaara craze, and asking about viral sensations like Labubu and the #67 memes, all while pausing to honor the legacy of icons like Dharmendra.”

Top Search Trends In 2025

The top search trends in India in Google Year in Search 2025 included  IPL, Google Gemini, Asia Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, Pro Kabbadi League, Maha Kumbh, Women’s World Cup, Grok, Saiyaara and Dharmendra.

During the same time period, the Major news events that captured the nation’s attention included “Operation Sindoor”, discussions around the “Waqf Bill”, “Bihar Election Result”, and “India Pakistan News”.

Besides this, individuals have shown a lot of interest in earthquake updates and air quality info, with people searching “Near Me”.

The sports world is as usual dominated by the cricket sports searches considering the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the most searched topic, with India’s historic win at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 also making waves.

It appears that Jemimah Rodrigues topped the list of trending women personalities after winning  the high-stakes tournaments like the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy also trended.

Coming to entertainment, it was abuzz with excitement, and ‘Saiyaara’ was the talk of the town.

And why not, as this movie’s lead actors, Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday, became overnight sensations, trending at the top of entertainment searches.

Not only that, this movie itself was the most searched movie of the year, and its title track was the most searched song.

In the entertainment category, the south cinema also made a significant impact, with Kantara, Coolie, Marco, and Game Changer dominating language-specific searches.

Technology and AI was not behind, as there was a massive surge in the use and curiosity about AI, with Indians exploring AI tools and features like AI Mode and Search Live in Google Search.

Google Gemini also left its impact by ranking second in overall searches, there is also a  surge in searches for DeepSeek, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Grok and Google AI Studio highlights Indians’ eagerness to explore and learn about various AI tools.

People have also shown interest in travel  ranging from domestic destinations like Prayagraj and Pahalgam to international hotspots like Phillipines, Georgia and Mauritius.

They have also searched about the public figures including cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi, actor and personality Shefali Jariwala, and the late actor Dharmendra, whose death was widely searched.

The masses were also interested in health and wellness considering the Haldi trend was huge, showing people’s interest in natural remedies.

On the other hand, food-wise, searches were a mix of heritage and new discoveries, with Thekua, Ukadiche Modak, and even Yorkshire pudding making the list.
