Russia’s biggest attack ever: Ukraine shaken by 653 drones and 51 missiles

The Russia-Ukraine war, now in its fourth year, has become more frightening. On Saturday night, Russia simultaneously attacked Ukraine with 653 drones and 51 missiles, which is considered to be the biggest air attack since the beginning of this war. An air-alert was issued across Ukraine following the attacks and power infrastructure was heavily damaged in several cities.

The Ukrainian Air Force said that this massive Russian attack was largely neutralized. According to the Air Force report, 585 drones were shot down in the air, 30 missiles were intercepted. Ukraine’s Interior Minister Igor Klimenka said eight people were injured in various areas, including three in the capital region of Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces deliberately targeted power plants and energy infrastructure. According to him, a railway station in Fastiv (Kiev region) was burnt down in a drone attack. Power supply has been affected in many areas. National energy operator Ukrainergo also confirmed that Russia attacked power plants and critical energy infrastructure on a “large-scale” basis.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Ministry said that Ukraine targeted an oil refinery in the Ryazan region, and their air defense shot down 116 Ukrainian drones. Russian Telegram Channel astra Video shared by Reuters showed fire and smoke rising from the Ryazan refinery.

Three-day talks in Florida between Ukrainian and US officials ended without any concrete agreement amid major Russian attacks. President Zelensky said he has had constructive talks with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and that Ukraine remains committed to the peace process.

This massive attack by Russia is not only a major attack on Ukraine’s energy system, but is also being considered a signal towards the rapid expansion of the war. Despite claims from both sides, it is clear that the conflict is becoming more deadly, while diplomatic efforts have so far failed to yield results.
