Wave of happiness among farmers due to initiative of Mann government, canal water reached fields after decades

Today is like the beginning of a new era for the farmers of Punjab. This change has not come from any big manifesto, but from ground work and concrete plans, which has completely changed the irrigation system of the state. Under the visionary initiative of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, canal water has now started reaching almost all the fields of Punjab, which was an unfulfilled dream of the farmers for decades.

Result of Integrated Provincial Water Plan

Earlier, canal water could reach only 68% of the fields in Punjab, but now this number has increased to 84%. This success is the result of a 14-point program implemented under the ‘Integrated Provincial Water Plan’. Under this scheme, 15,914 water courses have been restored and water flow has been restarted in 916 canals and miner’s, due to which irrigation water has started reaching even the remotest areas of the state.

The biggest achievement of this initiative is underground pipelines. The government has laid 2,400 km long pipelines to prevent wastage of water and deliver it directly to the fields, providing new irrigation facilities to 30,282 hectares of land. With this, farmers can now irrigate their fields directly with canal water and increase crop production.

Happiness among farmers of Anandpur Sahib Halke

The happiness of the farmers of Sri Anandpur Sahib Halke is a living example of this. When he saw water reaching his fields through pipeline for the first time, his happiness knew no bounds. This water came to them not only as a means of irrigation but also as a hope for life in an area that had been dry for 35-40 years. The farmers wholeheartedly thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and local MLA Harjot Singh Bains.

The Mann government was not limited to just providing water. Major steps have been taken to promote water conservation and modern farming. In view of the underground water crisis in Punjab, 300 million liters of treated water is being supplied to the fields every day under 28 projects. Apart from this, farmers are being given subsidy up to 90% at group level and 50% at individual level for modern irrigation systems like drip and sprinkler. 160 water harvesting structures and solar-lift irrigation schemes have also been started in 125 villages in the Kandi region.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann says that this is not just water management, but a “vision of providing water to every farm”. His policies have established Punjab as a model state of irrigation and sustainable agriculture, from which farmers can now expect higher yields and a better life.
