Mumbai: Famous film producer Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been arrested by the Rajasthan Police for alleged fraud of Rs 30 crore. The case pertains to a complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, owner of Indira Group of Companies, Udaipur. The police have taken both of them into custody and have completed the necessary medical tests and will now be taken to Udaipur.

Dr. Murdia alleges that he was persuaded to invest in a biopic based on the life of his late wife. The complaint states that they were assured that the project would be highly profitable and was likely to generate earnings of around Rs 200 crore. Additionally, there are allegations that many of the documents created for the film’s production were false or misleading.

Apart from Vikram Bhatt and his wife, names of other associates like Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria are also included in this complaint. Police have already issued notices to six other persons in this case.

Vikram Bhatt’s statement

After the FIR, Vikram Bhatt, while talking to the media, called these allegations baseless. He said the complaint contains material which shows that the police have been misled. Bhatt also said that it is possible that some documents may have been prepared fraudulently, on the basis of which this case has been registered.


Accusation of stopping the film ‘Virat’

The director also said that the film ‘Viraat’ which had created controversy was stopped midway by Dr. Murdiya himself. According to him, due to the halting of the film work, payments worth around Rs 250 crore to technicians and crew members have been stuck. Vikram believes that this entire controversy might be an attempt to avoid those outstanding payments.

Assurance of cooperation in investigation

Vikram Bhatt clarified that he and his wife are ready to cooperate fully in the investigation. He said that he has evidence to support every claim and if the police wants, he will provide all the documents. Bhatt says that as the investigation progresses, it will become clear what the reality is and from whose side the wrong information has been given.

After arrest and medical examination by the police, both will now be brought to Udaipur, where further interrogation will be done. This case has become a topic of discussion in the film industry and business world, because huge amount of money and involvement of famous personalities has come to light in it.
