Shanghai: India has opened its new Consulate in China’s IT and business hub Shanghai, which is changing its location for the first time after almost 32 years. This change is not considered normal as the Indian community, business activities and needs of embassy services have increased significantly in a global city like Shanghai in the last three decades.

The capacity of the old building was limited and due to the increasing demand, the need for a larger, modern and digital facility with the Consulate was felt for a long time. With the inauguration of the new campus, it is expected that Indian citizens will now get more fast, systematic and international level services and at the same time there will be a new momentum in India-China relations.

The new Consulate has been established in the prestigious Dawning Center in Shanghai’s Changning District, known for its connectivity, security and business environment. The new building is spread over an area of ​​approximately 1,436.63 square metres, which is almost twice the size of the earlier campus. This expansion will provide the consular staff with more space, better infrastructure and advanced technological facilities.

The building has been designed to cater to the large number of Indian citizens and business representatives visiting every day without any overcrowding. According to the statement issued by the Embassy, ​​this building will become fully operational from December 8 and all services will be provided from the new centre.
