Difficult to stop Rohit-Kohli’s claim in World Cup 2027 team, debate intensifies after Gautam Gambhir’s statement

Regarding the possible role of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in ODI World Cup 2027 indian cricket A new debate has erupted. Gautam Gambhir’s recent press conferences have indicated that even though Rohit and Kohli have performed well against Australia and South Africa, their place for the next World Cup cannot be considered certain yet. There are still about 22 months left for the ICC tournament to be held in South Africa and during this time, current form, fitness and consistent performance can become big challenges for both these giants.

Although both the legends aim to win the ODI World Cup as the last big aspiration of their career, but Gambhir’s emphasis on living in the present clearly shows that BCCI does not want to take any kind of risk keeping the future in mind.

Questions raised on the board’s strategy

After Gambhir’s statements, a large section of the cricket world does not seem to agree with this point of view. Former Team India selector Devang Gandhi believes that the Indian team in the 2027 World Cup should be built around Rohit and Kohli. According to him, the presence of experienced players will not only provide stability to the team but will also increase the chances of winning the title.

Gandhi told Times of India, “As long as Kohli and Rohit are in the team, the plans will revolve around them. The management should now stick to the pool of 20-plus players. Before the 2019 World Cup, no one was given enough chances to establish themselves at number four. When the top order faltered in the semi-finals, no one was prepared. The same happened in the 2023 World Cup, when the team management Was forced to play Suryakumar Yadav, whose ODI record has not been good.”

Lack of stability in India’s batting

Cricket experts believe that India’s batting lineup has been struggling with instability for a long time. Apart from Rohit-Kohli, except some names like KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, no player has been able to cement his place. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal have definitely scored brilliant centuries recently, but they are still not established as regular openers. Rishabh Pant is struggling to make a comeback, while reliable batsman like Shreyas Iyer is out of the team due to injury.

Rohit-Kohli’s age and 2027 challenge

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be 40 and 39 years old during the 2027 World Cup. Cricket experts believe that maintaining fitness, commitment and form at this stage of age will not be easy. Although the inspiration and experience of both are invaluable for India, but it is going to be very difficult for the selectors.
