10 big things about PM Modi’s speech in Lok Sabha

  1. In the context of history, Prime Minister Modi said that when Vande Mataram completed 50 years, India was stuck in the shackles of slavery. When it completed 100 years, the country was going through the blackness of Emergency, patriots were being put in jail and democracy was being strangled. He said that it was ironical that the song which inspired the country to struggle for freedom, was going through a dark phase at the same time. Today, completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram is an opportunity to re-establish that lost national consciousness, self-respect and glorious heritage. This song became the inspiration for the country to get independence in 1947.
  2. The Prime Minister also made a sharp attack on the mentality of the British era. He said that at that time it had become a trend among the British to present India as a weak, useless and lazy nation. In such times, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay proclaimed the power, strength and self-confidence of India through Vande Mataram.
  3. PM Modi mentioned those lines of Vande Mataram, in which India has been addressed in the form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati – “Twan Hi Durga Praharandharini… Kamala Kamaldalviharini… Vani Vidyadayini… Sujalan Suphalan Mataram… Vande Mataram.” He said that this was not just a poem, but a cry to awaken the sleeping nation of that era.
  4. The Prime Minister also indicated in his address that Vande Mataram is not only related to the past but is also linked to the consciousness of present and future India. He said that this song is the unifying force that guided the country from slavery to independence and then to the restoration of democracy.
  5. PM Modi said that the British chose the path of ‘divide and rule’ and made Bengal its laboratory, because the British also knew that there was a time when the intellectual potential of Bengal gave direction, strength and inspiration to the country, hence the British also wanted that the potential of Bengal is the center point of the country’s strength.. That is why they first worked towards breaking Bengal into pieces.. They believed that breaking Bengal would break this country…
  6. The Prime Minister said that the British partitioned Bengal in 1905… but when they committed this sin, Vande Mataram stood like a rock. Vande Mataram became the rallying cry of every street for the unity of Bengal. That slogan used to inspire.

After this emotional and historic address of the Prime Minister in the Lok Sabha, the debate on Vande Mataram that started has now come to the center of political, cultural and historical discussion, on which a heated debate between the government and the opposition is certain in the coming hours.
