Chinnaswamy Stadium, but during the celebration, a stampede resulted in the deaths of 11 people. After this incident, serious questions began to arise regarding the stadium’s security and event management.
Due to security concerns, some matches of the Women’s World Cup 2025 were shifted from Bengaluru, and now, ahead of IPL 2026, shifting RCB’s matches is also being considered.
What is the matter?
After winning the IPL 2025 title, RCB celebrated at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was a final match against Punjab Kings. However, a stampede occurred during this celebration, leading to the deaths of 11 people and raising serious questions about security. Following this incident, the stadium was barred from hosting several major events.
Five matches of the Women’s One Day World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru, were also shifted to other cities. Additionally, the hosting of the Maharaja T20 Tournament, scheduled for August, and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 were also moved away from this stadium. These incidents had started discussions about shifting RCB’s matches for IPL 2026 as well, causing concern among fans.
DK Shivakumar’s Clear Statement
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has put an end to this controversy by stating that RCB’s home matches will not be shifted elsewhere. He said, “This is a matter of pride for Bengaluru and Karnataka. We will ensure that IPL matches happen here. I am a cricket fan myself, and we will take all security measures to ensure such incidents do not happen again in the future. The prestige of the stadium will be maintained.”
Shivakumar also announced that a new cricket stadium would be built to create an alternative, ensuring matches can be safely organized in case of any future emergency.
Relief for RCB and Fans
This news is no less than a gift for RCB fans. Holding matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will not only maintain the team’s home advantage but is also a matter of pride for cricket lovers in Bengaluru and Karnataka. Considering the historical and enthusiastic atmosphere of the stadium, fans’ expectations and excitement have increased.
Due to past incidents, other tournaments were shifted to other cities. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 matches will now be held at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and Kothambi Stadium in Vadodara.
