Captain KL Rahul and the team’s support staff were found guilty under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This is a warning for Team India that they will have to improve their speed, otherwise they may have to face more severe punishment in the future.

Reason for slow over rate

Match referee Richie Richardson imposed this penalty on Team India because the team did not complete the overs in the stipulated time, especially under the captaincy of KL Rahul, the team failed to bowl two overs less. According to ICC rules, if the team does not complete the overs in the stipulated time, then 5 percent of the match fee is deducted for each over. Captain KL Rahul accepted the fine and the charges, thereby avoiding the need for a hearing.

Warning in Ranchi ODI and T20 series

The Indian team has faced the problem of slow over rate in two consecutive matches. The same mistake was made in Ranchi ODI also, due to which the team had to put an extra fielder in the last over. Experts believe that if the over rate remains slow even in the T20 series, India may have to face strict action.

The first match of the five-match T20 series between India and South Africa will be played in Cuttack. In the last series, India had defeated South Africa 3-1 at home. Now the team will have to be cautious not only in performance but also in following the rules.
