Sugar Tax In Dubai: UAE is going to implement many new rules in the new year i.e. 2026. This change can have a huge impact on the people living in Dubai. Along with this, the government is going to impose tax on sugar and other products made from sugar.
According to a report published in Khaleej Times, it has been announced in UAE that from January 1, 2026, there will be a change in the way sugary beverages are taxed in the country.
50% tax on sugar products
The Finance Ministry and the Federal Tax Authority have said that from next year, the tax on sweetened beverages will be based on their sugar content rather than their product category, with an excise duty of 50 per cent. Its objective is to make the country healthy. If this new tax rule is implemented then people living in Dubai will have to pay higher prices for sugar products.
Objective to make life of taxpayers easier
The United Arab Emirates has announced comprehensive tax reforms from 2026, aimed at making life easier for taxpayers and increasing transparency. There will be clear rules and deadlines, including the time limit for claiming refunds. The UAE is set to simplify tax procedures with new Value Added Tax (VAT) rules to be implemented in 2026.
From mid-2026, the UAE will implement a nationwide e-invoicing system in a phased manner. Under the new system, businesses will have to exchange invoices in a standardized electronic format and not just through PDF or scanned copies.
