Refund of Rs 610 crore, it will take two days for passengers’ luggage to reach home
After five days of chaos in the country’s air flight sector, when citizens aviation ministry When the government showed strictness, the functioning of the aviation company Indigo started showing improvement. There are now signs of stopping the huge increase in fares on domestic routes. According to the ministry, till Sunday evening, refunds worth Rs 610 crore have been processed by IndiGo to passengers of canceled and highly delayed flights.
As of Saturday, about 3,000 bags had been delivered to passengers across the country, while delivery of the remaining luggage may take two more days. The government said that the process of refund and baggage tracing is going on and it may take another 3–4 days for the network to become normal (IndiGo Flight Refund Crisis Update).
The ministry says that the situation is moving towards normal. On Saturday, airlines were directed to complete refunds of canceled flights by Sunday evening and the remaining bags should be delivered to passengers within 48 hours. According to the data, IndiGo is expected to operate 706 flights on December 5, 1,565 flights on December 6, and around 1,650 flights on Sunday (December 7) (IndiGo Flight Refund Crisis Update). Although this number is lower than IndiGo’s normal average of 2,300 daily flights, the direction of improvement is clear.
Airfare dropped – relief
The effect of fixing the maximum fare limit is also becoming visible.
The Delhi-Mumbai fare, which was around Rs 11,000 a day ago, came down to around Rs 6,000 on Monday.
Delhi-Hyderabad fare which was 20-21 thousand rupees on Saturday, became 12 thousand rupees on Sunday.
According to the ministry, all the airlines have followed the new structure by keeping the fares under control. No extra charges are being charged on re-scheduling and a special cell has also been formed to assist the passengers.
Bag delivery is a big challenge
After thousands of bags were separated, the ministry had directed IndiGo to deliver all the bags within 48 hours. The company has been able to distribute only 3,000 bags so far. Officials say that it is difficult to send such a large volume of baggage in the stipulated time, but additional staff is working day and night to sort the bags by matching the tags. The Ministry has directed that bag delivery and tracking will be continuously monitored.
The situation remained normal in most of the airports of the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa on Sunday. There was no overcrowding observed at check-in, security and boarding zones. Additional teams of CISF and airport management have been deployed.
