Parthiv Patel discusses the importance of Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20I series against South Africa
Overview:
Parthiv Patel discusses the use of Jasprit Bumrah in the T20I series against South Africa and its impact on India’s strategy.
Parthiv Patel emphasised that he will be keeping an eye on how Jasprit Bumrah is used in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, set to begin on Tuesday in Cuttack. This year, India have typically used Bumrah in the power play, with less emphasis on him during the final overs of the innings.
“It’s a crucial series for India, particularly against the World Cup runners-up, South Africa. It will serve as good preparation. There are a few things I’m keen to see, with the first being how India utilises Jasprit Bumrah,” Patel said on JioStar.
“Since the Asia Cup, India have used his three overs in the powerplay, and that strategy continued during the Australia tour. If they stick to bowling him for three overs early, he’ll only have one over left for the death, which would be the 19th over. So, India will need to manage him wisely. If they want him to bowl three overs up front, then Arshdeep Singh will need to partner Bumrah in the death overs,” he added.
Discussing Hardik Pandya‘s recovery from a quadriceps injury sustained in the Asia Cup, Patel stressed that his return is a significant factor for India as they finalise their T20 World Cup preparations.
“Hardik Pandya’s return is crucial. He performed exceptionally well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is getting back into form. He’s a vital player, contributing with both bat and ball. His presence in the squad is essential as he brings experience and helps guide the younger players. I’m really looking forward to his comeback,” he said.
