Ram Mohan Naidu speaks on IndiGo crisis, we will set an example for other airlines by taking strict action
On the Indigo crisis, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday (December 8) that the government is taking this issue very seriously. At present, its investigation is going on and once the conclusion comes, we will take very strict action, which will become an example for other airlines. Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Naidu said the situation had arisen due to problems in IndiGo’s internal operations, including the crew rostering system and internal planning.
The Union Minister said that the Government has implemented the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules after consulting all the stakeholders. In April, it was implemented under High Court guidelines. There were a total of 22 FDTL rules, out of which 15 came into effect from July 1 and the remaining seven from November 1.
Since then DGCA was talking to all the airlines on FDTL rules. There was also a discussion with IndiGo on December 1 regarding this, because they wanted some clarification on the rules, but even during this time they did not mention this problem and everything was normal.
He further said that as soon as the problem came to light on December 3, the ministry started taking steps to control the situation. We have taken the situation at the airports under control. We have consulted all the parties and then you must have seen how the situation changed in those two days. However, the passengers had to face a lot of difficulties.
Naidu said that we have made it clear to all the parties that security is the priority of the government and it will not be compromised at any cost. The safety of the entire system including the crew, pilots and passengers is of utmost importance to us. In the end, Naidu said that the government is taking this matter very seriously and after investigation we will take very strict action, which will set an example for other airlines.
