When asked who would open between Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill, the skipper said that both players have a place in the team and are flexible. Talking about Sanju Samson, he said, “Sanju is a batsman who is likely to play in the top order. He has done well as an opener and Shubman played ahead of Sanju as he deserved that position, but we have ensured that Sanju also gets a chance.” This statement shows that the captain has faith in both the players and wants to balance the team.

Flexibility in batting order

Responding to questions about the batting order, Surya said that apart from the openers, players other than the openers will have to be flexible and adapt to the situation. “These two (Gil and Sanju) are part of our plan and can play multiple roles. They are an asset to the team,” he said.
