Controversy erupts over Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’, Baloch activist made serious allegations

Big Controversy:While Indian actor Ranveer Singh’s new film ‘Dhurandhar’ is performing brilliantly at the box office, some of its scenes have created deep resentment in the Baloch community of Pakistan. The film, based on a Pakistan-centric story, is making waves in theatres, but Baloch activists have called it an inaccurate representation of their community and India-Balochistan relations.

A few days after the release of the film, Mir Yar Baloch, a well-known activist from Balochistan, lodged his objection on the social media platform He wrote that the film does injustice to “the honor and struggle of the patriotic Baloch”.

The film showed a wrong image

Mir Yar Baloch alleged that the film has shown Baloch people as if they celebrate the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He clarified that “Baloch people are the biggest victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, hence celebrating any terrorist attack is not a part of our culture.”
He also said that Baloch never promote violence by raising religious slogans nor have they ever stood with agencies like ISI against India.

The film hurt the religious sentiments of the people

The activist also objected to the scene shown in the film, in which Baloch fighters are shown selling their weapons to anti-India elements. He described it as a wrong portrayal of their freedom struggle and sacrifice. He termed the film’s dialogue “We can trust crocodiles, not Baloch” as insulting and said that loyalty is kept supreme in Baloch culture.

He said, “It is said in our place that a glass of water is worth a hundred years of loyalty. In such a situation, showing us a symbol of betrayal is an insult to our traditions.”
Allegation of lack of research

Lack of research in the film

Mir Yar Baloch claimed that not enough research was done on Baloch culture, history and freedom movement in the film.
He also said that if Baloch gangsters had so much power and money for activities like printing fake currency, then Balochistan would not be struggling with poverty and underdevelopment. The Baloch activist alleged that illegal activities like smuggling of drugs, fake currency and weapons are not carried out by Baloch but by other organizations, thereby continuously damaging the image of Balochistan.
