What’s happening inside Adiala jail? Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s sister shares details- The Week
After days of speculation about his health, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, met him at Adiala Jail on Tuesday. Uzma was allowed to meet with her brother after days of protest, which saw Khan’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, stage a massive sit-in outside the Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan’s three sisters, Aleema Khanum, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma Khan, arrived outside Adiala Jail for a meeting but were stopped by the police officers stationed there. However, after some time, an officer was sent by the prison authorities to Imran Khan’s sisters, and a message was given that Uzma Khan’s name had been agreed upon for the meeting.
After the meeting, Uzma said Khan was healthy, dismissing all rumours about his health and well-being. However, she also claimed that Khan is being kept in solitary confinement. Their meeting lasted 20 minutes, and Uzma said Khan told her that he was being “locked in his room the whole day and only allowed to leave the room for a short time.”
Regarding this meeting, PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari said in a statement that “one of Imran Khan’s sisters met him for a short time. In her press talk, she said that she was deeply angry at the mental torture inflicted on both of them.”
Meanwhile, Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, also made important revelations.
According to him, Uzma Khan was allowed to meet the PTI founder on the condition that she would not hold a press conference later. He accused Khan of “trying to spread anarchy and chaos” while sitting in prison. “The law allows a prisoner to meet his family and lawyers. But there is no law that allows a convicted prisoner to sit in jail and launch a movement against the government or the state. There is no law that allows a prisoner to cause anarchy, sedition, chaos, agitation, or arson against the government, and he manages all these things through visitors,” he said.
He said that Khan had a heavy breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and ate his favorite meal at 2:30 p.m. He also said that an hour earlier, a meeting had been arranged with the founder’s wife, Bushra Bibi.
However, Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, told BBC Urdu that she and Imran only have ‘normal conversations’ about ‘what’s happening, what will happen, and in the end, he tells them what to say when they go out.’
“The only thing they are worried about is that Imran Khan’s words are being told out loud, which is why they have completely stopped the meetings.” She claimed that Imran Khan’s “TV is off, the newspaper is off”. “According to prison rules, you cannot keep any prisoner in solitary confinement for more than four days,” she said, adding that Khan is not demanding any additional facilities but “he only asks for books and to talk to his children”.
