Will Prithvi Shaw find any buyer this time in IPL 2026 auction? Such has been the performance in domestic cricket

The last two years have been no less than a rollercoaster for Prithvi Shaw. This opener, who was once considered the future of Team India, remained unsold in the IPL auction last season. But this time the story is a little different because Shaw has made a splash with his bat in domestic cricket and is now entering the field with the dream of a comeback in IPL.

This time Shaw has kept his base price at ₹75 lakh in the IPL 2026 mini auction. Talking about domestic cricket, 26-year-old Prithvi is playing for Maharashtra and has so far scored 470 runs in 7 innings in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season at an average of 67.14, which also includes a double century against Chandigarh. Not only this, while captaining in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, he also showed that his explosive batting is not over yet by scoring a fifty in 23 balls.

This is all the more special because Shaw has been in the news in the last few months due to controversies related to fitness, form and discipline. The situation was such that he was dropped from the Mumbai team in the middle of the 2024 Ranji season and no team was ready to buy him in IPL 2025. But after shifting to Maharashtra, he has worked hard on his game and mindset.

It is noteworthy that Prithvi Shaw last played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. His journey in IPL started with DC in 2018 and till now he has scored 1892 runs in 79 matches, that too with a strike rate of 147.46. He also has 14 half-centuries in his name.

Now talking about IPL 2026 mini auction, this time 350 players are participating, which includes 240 Indian and 110 foreign players, but only 77 slots are available. Meaning competition will be strong.

Big names like South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (base price ₹ 1 crore), Australia’s Steve Smith (₹ 2 crore), Cameron Green, David Miller and New Zealand’s Devon Conway are also going to enter this auction. The highest purse this time is with Kolkata Knight Riders (₹64.3 crore), while CSK (₹43.4 crore) and SRH (₹25.5 crore) are behind them.
