Delhi High Court angry over Indigo crisis, reprimanded Central Government and Airlines… Asked what arrangements did you make?
New Delhi : The Delhi High Court strongly reprimanded the Central Government and the aviation authorities on the problems faced by the passengers due to continuous cancellation of Indigo flights, shortage of staff and chaos. The court asked how such an emergency situation suddenly arose and what steps had already been taken by the government? The court also wanted to know whether adequate arrangements were made at the airport for the safety and care of the passengers.
Inconvenience and financial loss
Let us tell you that during the hearing, the court expressed deep displeasure over the fact that due to the negligence of IndiGo, thousands of passengers not only faced inconvenience but also had to suffer financial loss. The court asked what action the government was taking to provide compensation to the passengers. The court clearly said that this issue is not just of flight delay, but of a major system failure, in which the responsibility of the airline is most important.
Airlines drastically increased fares
The court also took cognizance of reports that other airlines had increased fares drastically amid the IndiGo crisis. Where earlier a ticket was available for Rs 5,000, now the same fare has reached Rs 30,000 to Rs 39,000. The court asked on what basis can an airline charge such high fares during the crisis? Did the government keep a watch on this or did it give free rein to the companies?
Government clarification, FDTL rules and interference
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the government, told the court that the ministry had been trying to implement FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limit) for a long time, but IndiGo had sought extension twice. He said that for the first time the Center has directly intervened and set a cap on fares, which in itself is a strict regulatory step. ASG also said that legal provisions are fully implemented and the government is continuously working to normalize the situation.
The crisis raised many questions
The IndiGo crisis has raised questions not only on the airline management but also on the preparedness of the DGCA and the central government. The strictness of the court is an indication that now transparency, accountability and passenger interest will have to be given top priority in the aviation sector.
