Farmer Shivaji Kurhe of Washim district in Vidarbha has not only depended on agriculture but has become an entrepreneur. They have started a unique service called Turmeric on Wheels, which delivers freshly ground turmeric to customers’ homes. Shivaji Kurhe says that this new venture has not only increased his income, but also provides consumers with access to pure, unadulterated spices.

Double the income from the market

Shivaji Kurhe explained that if farmers sell their produce directly to traders, they get a lower price. “If I sell this turmeric to a trader in the market, I get Rs 130 per kg. But when I go door-to-door and grind turmeric to order, I get Rs 300 per kg, which is almost double.” He believes that if farmers sell their produce directly to the public, their income will increase significantly and there will be no need for loan waivers.

Special vehicle ordered for 2.5 lakhs from Punjab

To grow the business, Kurhe has changed his old method. “Earlier I used to carry a two-wheeled grinder and sell 20 kg of turmeric a day. But now I have ordered a special vehicle from Punjab for Rs 2.5 lakh. This new vehicle also has storage space, so now I can sell an average of 50 kg of turmeric powder per day,” he explained. A grinding machine is installed on their vehicle.

Customers are happy with Kurhe’s service, as they don’t have to worry about the difference between genuine and fake. Sandhya Waghmare, who buys turmeric from Kurhe, said, “The turmeric I buy is organic and they grind it in front of us. The powder is pure, natural in color, unlike commercial turmeric which can be adulterated. This powder is cleaner and softer than commercially available powders.”

Demand for power supply from Govt

Shivaji Kurhe believes that others farmer They can increase their income by delivering their products directly to consumers. They also have a demand from the government. Kurhe said the government should provide uninterrupted electricity to farmers so that they can irrigate their crops anytime.
