According to the information received, a fire broke out in the Raj cloth market in Parvat Patia area of the city. More than 15 fire engines have reached the spot to douse the fire. Basant Pareek, Chief Fire Officer of Surat, has commented on the matter and said that around 20 to 22 fire engines have reached the spot. The fire is completely under control and cooling work is also underway.
A massive fire broke out in the Raj Textile Market in Parvat Patia area of Surat city on Wednesday morning. The fire, which started from the ground floor of the multi-storied building, reached the eighth floor and gutted several shops. As soon as the fire was reported, nearby businessmen and local people came out in panic. The fire control room received information about the incident at 7:14 am and vehicles from Dumbhal, Maan Darwaza and Dindoli fire stations were immediately dispatched to the spot. But seeing smoke spreading rapidly from the market’s electrical ducts throughout the complex, the fire brigade was immediately called. Subsequently, Surat Fire Brigade dispatched teams and vehicles from a total of 22 fire stations to the spot.
Surat According to Municipal Corporation Chief Fire Officer Basant Parik, the fire spread so fast that firefighters had to use hydraulic platforms to control the smoke and flames trapped on the third, fifth and eighth floors. He said 100 to 125 firemen risked their lives to enter the building and operated continuously for 3.5 hours before bringing the fire under control. Preliminary investigation reveals that the fire started due to a short circuit in the electrical wiring. According to officials, by the time the main power supply was interrupted, the fire had spread through the wiring to three to four floors. The large amount of cloth and other materials in the shops caused smoke and fire. The fire department has yet to declare the entire building safe. The good thing is that there was no loss of life in the accident.

The fire initially started in the elevator cables, then quickly spread to the upper floors. The fire was mainly concentrated on the third, fifth and ninth floors. The fire took a serious turn as there was a huge stock of polyester cloth in the market.

Considering the severity of the incident, the fire department has declared a fire emergency. More than 30 fire tenders have reached the spot to control the fire. At present, around 150 fire personnel are engaged in firefighting and rescue operations. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
