Both Ayurveda and modern research consider celery as a natural medicine full of properties. An element called thymol is mainly found in celery to the extent of 40 to 50 percent, which is rich in anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from this, it also contains minerals like iron, calcium, potassium and omega-9 fatty acids which make it beneficial for children, women and the elderly.
The right way to eat celery
In Ayurveda, celery is considered no less than a medicine. The methods of its consumption have also been described. If you have problem of gas or stomach ache in winter, lightly fry one spoon of celery, add a pinch of black salt and chew it. The problem of flatulence, cramps and gas goes away within 10-15 minutes. Along with gas and stomach ache, it also provides relief from cold, cough and blocked nose. Add one spoon of celery in boiling water and steam it. The steam of thymol opens the sinuses and melts the mucus.

Relief from period pain
Celery is also effective in providing relief from severe pain and cramps during periods. Boil half a spoon of celery in a cup of water for 5-7 minutes, add some jaggery and drink it hot. At the same time, grind roasted celery and add rock salt to it. Taking a pinch after meals relieves the problems of acidity, heaviness and indigestion.

Celery also provides relief from joint pain and muscle stiffness. Heat it on a pan, tie it in a cloth and apply it gently on the painful area. Thymol reduces inflammation and pain through the skin.
Consumption of celery is very beneficial. It is helpful in saving from major problems without any side effects. However, health experts say that celery is hot in nature. In such a situation, caution is also necessary. Pregnant women and piles patients should avoid consuming it in large quantities without doctor’s advice.
