Ahilyanagar News: 868 gram panchayat elections postponed, sarpanch election will also be done directly from voters
Ahilyanagar It seems that the elections of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Committees have been delayed due to some reason. Due to this, there are signs that the Gram Panchayat elections due to expire in the city district will also be delayed. The district administration has predicted that the elections of 868 Gram Panchayats, including 769 whose terms will expire in the new year and 99 who have been administrators for the past two years and are waiting for elections, will be delayed for at least six months.
The vacant Gram Panchayat elections for the year 2024-25 in the district were delayed due to first the Lok Sabha and then the Assembly elections. At present, the management of the expired Gram Panchayats is going on through the administrator.

Now in the new year in February 2026, the five-year tenure of 769 Gram Panchayats across the district will end. It is expected that the election program of Gram Panchayats will be announced in the month of December itself to elect new members there within the stipulated time. But at present, the process of municipal election and then municipal and zilla parishad, panchayat committee and municipal elections will be implemented.
Sarpanch will also be elected directly from voters
The Supreme Court has ordered to end all these elections by the end of January 31. This period is insufficient for Election Commission. In such a situation, there is no option but to postpone the Gram Panchayat elections. Most of the Gram Panchayats whose terms expire in February are from the villages of veteran leaders. Therefore, here too, political conflict is conditional. As the Sarpanch election will also be done directly from the voters, the future Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members look at it as a colorful rehearsal.

99 Gram Panchayats stalled for two years
The program of ward structure and voter lists of 84 Gram Panchayats which expired in January to December 2024 was completed. Also, the Ward Formation Program of 14 Gram Panchayats whose term expired from January to December 2025 was also announced. Therefore, the elections of these 99 Gram Panchayats will be held earlier. Apart from this, by-elections will be held for the posts of members of some gram panchayats. After this, 768 Gram Panchayat elections are likely to be held in 2026.
