Indigenous trainer HJT-36 renamed as ‘Yashas’ Gujarati

New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has renamed its HJT-36 trainer aircraft as ‘Yashas’. Defense Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar christened and launched the new version of the trainer aircraft at the HAL pavilion at Aero India. HAL chief DK Sunile had said that this aircraft can replace Kiran Mark-2 and it also has good export potential.

HAL’s main jet training aircraft, Hindustan Jet Trainer HJT-36, has now been renamed ‘Yashas’. This change follows extensive changes to the entire fuselage to address departure characteristics and spin resistance. HAL chief Dr. DK Sunile said on the occasion that extensive changes to the Baseline Intermediate Training Platform have significantly enhanced its capabilities. Therefore, it has now been given the opportunity to be given a new name in line with the aircraft’s continued relevance as a training system for modern military aviation.

CMD Dr. Sunile inaugurated HAL stall HAL-E along with directors and senior leaders at Aero India 2025. Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) is the main attraction of the HAL pavilion. HAL Light Utility Helicopter and its Light Observation Helicopter have been designed and developed by Rotary Wing Research and Design Centre, one of the research and development divisions of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, for civil and military applications. Apart from this, various innovative products developed at HAL have also been displayed.
