Accident in Arunachal Pradesh: Truck fell into ditch in Anjaw district, 14 people from Tinsukia died, 7 others missing

Anjaw (Arunachal Pradesh), 11 December. A tragic accident has been reported in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, where at least 14 people from Tinsukia district of Assam died while seven others are missing after a truck fell into a ditch.

Rescue operation continues

According to the information received, this accident happened on the hill of Chaglagam circle of Anjaw district, when the truck carrying 22 laborers fell into the ditch. According to Anjaw district DDMO (in-charge) Nang Chingni Chaupu, this incident happened on the night of December 8 and was reported on the night of December 10.

There were 22 laborers on the truck, one survivor was handed over to Assam.

He told, ‘Even the local people were not aware that any incident had happened there. The path there is steep and narrow. Why did the incident happen? This has not been known yet. We have a survivor, according to whom there were 22 laborers in the truck.

He said that search and rescue operations are being carried out by the Army, ITBP and the district administration. NDRF has been called. The rescue team has reached there, and the operation is underway. We still have to evacuate the people in the truck. We think we will be able to take out only the dead body. We have handed over the surviving person to Assam after treatment.

On the other hand, Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapnil Paul said that this incident took place on Hyuliang-Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district located in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh. He said, ‘We received information around 11 am today that a vehicle fell into a ditch in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, following which we contacted the district commissioners of Anjaw and Teju for confirmation. Both officials said that the rescue team has so far recovered 14 bodies. One person was alive while seven others are still missing.

He said that a team of area officer and police personnel from Tinsukia has been sent to the neighboring state to get more information. He said, ‘They have reached Teju and within two-three hours we will be able to give more information.’
